The Giants have signed 37-year old righty reliever Guillermo Mota to a minor league deal. Mota pitched in 56 games (0 starts) for the Giants last season and he was 1-3 with 1 save, a 4.33 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He has now pitched in 665 games (0 starts) in his first 12 years in the majors and he is 37-42 with 9 saves, a 3.92 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. It was smart of the Giants to bring back Mota to work early in games out of the pen.

The Giants have re-signed 23-year old righty reliever Waldis Joaquin to a minor league deal. Joaquin pitched in 4 games (0 starts) for the Giants last season and he was 0-0 with a 9.69 ERA and a 2.79 WHIP. He also pitched in 27 games (9 starts) in Rookie+AAA-ball last season and he was 1-2 with 2 saves, a 4.43 ERA and a 1.77 WHIP. Joaquin has now pitched in parts of two years for the Giants, appearing in 14 games (0 starts) in which he is 0-0 with a 5.87 ERA and a 1.96 WHIP. He has walked 14 batters in 15 1/3 innings in his major league career and that’s just not going to get it done. He will need to tighten his control to have any chance of sticking with the Giants in the near future.

The Giants have re-signed 34-year old righty swinging outfielder Pat Burrell to a 1-year, incentive laden deal.  Burrell played in 96 games for the Giants after signing a minor league deal with them last summer.  Burrell has now played in 1,548 games in his 11 years in the majors and he is 1,351 of 5,320 (.254 avg, .837 OPS) with 750 runs scored, 285 homers and 955 RBIs.  This is a good deal for both the Giants and Burrell.
