26-year old switch-hitting 3B Pablo Sandoval has been named the MVP of the World Series. Sandoval played in all four games for the Giants in the World Series and he was 8 for 16 (.500 avg, 1.654 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 3 homers and 4 RBIs. He walked only 1 time and whiffed only 2 times in the World Series as he was hitting everything! His Game #1 will go down in World Series’ history as one of the best performances of all time as he whacked 3 homers in his first three at bats (2 of off Justin Verlander and 1 off of Al Alburquerque). That is tied for the most homers ever in a World Series Game (Babe Ruth twice, Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols are the others). Sandoval ripped the ball the whole post-season for the Giants. He played in 16 games in the post-season for the Giants this year and he was 24 of 66 (.364 avg, 1.098 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 6 homers and 13 RBIs. The Ku Fu Panda flexed his muscles in the post-season, leading the Giants to their second World Series’ in the last three years.

Game #4: San Francisco Giants 3, Detroit Tigers 2 in 10 innings

The San Francisco Giants finished off the Tigers in the World Series last night due to timely hitting and good pitching. In the 10th inning, Marco Scutaro singled to knock in Ryan Theriot with the eventual game winning run. Marco Scutaro led the way for the Giants last night with the bat as he was 2 for 4 with 1 run scored, 1 walk and 1 RBI. Buster Posey also had a rock solid game as he was 1 for 4 with 1 run scored, a homer and 2 RBIs. Hunter Pence (1 for 4 with a double and a run scored), Brandon Belt (1 for 3 with a triple and 1 RBI), Ryan Theriot (1 for 4 with a run scored) and Brandon Crawford (1 for 3) also pitched in for the Giants with the bats last night. Matt Cain was solid as usual as he pitched the first seven innings allowing 5 hits, 3 runs (all earned) while walking 2 batters and whiffing 5 of them. Jeremy Affeldt was next up and he was awesome. He pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings giving up no hits, walking 1 batter and whiffing 4 of them. Santiago Casilla worked got out the only batter he faced in the 9th inning and he got the win for it! Sergio Romo came in for the Giants in the bottom of the 10th inning and he whiffed all three of the batters he pitched to, catching Miguel Cabrera looking for the last out. THE GIANTS ARE WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS FOR THE 2012 SEASON. That makes it two out of three years (2010 also)!

The Giants got outstanding pitching and just enough hitting to make it stand up in Detroit last night. Ryan Vogelsong worked the first 5 2/3 innings last night in which he gave up 5 hits, walked 4 batters, gave up no runs and he whiffed 3 batters to earn the win. Tim Lincecum was next up and he worked 2 1/3 innings allowing 0 hits, 1 walk and he whiffed 3 batters. Sergio Romo worked a scoreless ninth inning while whiffing 1 batter to earn the save. Hunter Pence (2 for 3 with a walk, stolen base and a run scored), Brandon Crawford (2 for 3 with 1 RBI and 1 stolen base), Pablo Sandoval (2 for 4 with a double) and Gregor Blanco (1 for 4 with a run scored, a triple and 1 RBI) led the way offensively for the Giants last night. The Giants are now up 3-0 in the World Series!

Game #1: San Francisco Giants 8, Detroit Tigers 3

The Giants got outstanding pitching last night, but Pablo Sandoval was the man of the hour! He went 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored, 3 homers and 4 RBIs last night! Sandoval became only the fourth player in Major League history to hit three homers in one night. He joins Babe Ruth (he did it twice), Reggie Jackson and Albert Pujols in the three homer in a World Series’ Game Club…..and that is quite a club to join! Angel Pagan (2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 doubles), Marco Scutaro (2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs) and Buster Posey (2 for 4 with an RBI) also hit well last night for the Giants. Barry Zito was incredible again for the Giants last night. He worked 5 2/3 innings allowing 6 hits, 1 walk, 1 run (it was earned) while whiffing 3 batters to earn the win last night. He also helped himself by going 1 for 2 with an RBI last night. Tim Lincecum replaced Zito and he was amazing. He pitched 2 1/3 flawless innings while whiffing 5 batters! Jose Mijares got the only batter out that he pitched to. George Kontos had a rough time working 1/3 of an inning allowing 2 hits, 1 walk and 2 runs (both earned). Jeremy Affeldt pitched to one batter and he got the last guy out to end this game. The Giants are now up 1-0 in the World Series.

The World Series: San Francisco Giants (7-5) vs. Detroit Tigers (7-2)

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Playoffs, The World Series by chinmusic on Wednesday 24 October 2012 at 1:29 pm

This World Series could be a classic. It pits two managers (Jim Leyland and Bruce Bochy) that have both won a World Series already in their careers. The matchups are very close in this series and here is a look at them:

CATCHER: Lefty swinging Alex Avila has not played up to his ability in the post-season. Avila has now played in 18 games in the post-season so far in his career and he is 8 for 63 (.127 avg, .392 OPS) with 3 runs scored, 2 homers and 3 RBIs.

Righty swinging Buster Posey might be named the MVP of the N.L. after the World Series, as he is just that good. Posey has played in 12 games in the post-season so far and he is 8 for 45 (.178 avg, .600 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 2 homers and 6 RBIs. Righty swinging infielder Joaquin Arias does a good job whenever called upon. He has played in 8 games in the playoffs so far and he is 3 for 8 (.375 avg, 1.000 OPS) with 3 runs scored. Righty swinging infielder Ryan Theriot has also been very productive so far in the playoffs. Edgar Renteria of the San Francisco Giants wins the World Series MVP Award

Blogged under Awards, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The World Series by chinmusic on Tuesday 2 November 2010 at 12:20 pm

34-year old righty swinging shortstop Edgar Renteria was one of the most unlikely MVPs in the World Series in quite some time. He was injury prone most of this year as he only played in 72 games for the Giants during the regular season and he was 67 of 243 (.276 avg, .707 OPS) with 26 runs scored, 3 homers, 22 RBIs and 3 stolen bases. But in the World Series, Renteria turned up the power and he was the best hitter for the Giants without a doubt. Renteria played in 5 games for the Giants in the World Series and he was 7 of 17 (.412 avg, 1.209 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 2 homers and 6 RBIs. Renteria proved once again just like he did with the 1997 Marlins that he is a money player.

Game #5: San Francisco Giants 3, Texas Rangers 1

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The World Series by chinmusic on Monday 1 November 2010 at 11:25 pm

This game was the Tim Lincecum & Edgar Renteria show for the Giants tonight. Lincecum worked the first 8 innings allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run while walking 2 batters and whiffing 10 to earn the win tonight. Brian Wilson threw a perfect 9th inning while whiffing 2 batters to save this game. Edgar Renteria only had 1 hit in 3 at bats but it was a big one. It was a three run homer off of Cliff Lee with 2 outs in the 7th inning to give the Giants all the run that they would need tonight. Buster Posey (2 for 4), Cody Ross (1 for 4 with a run scored) and Juan Uribe (1 for 4 with a run scored) also helped out with the bats for the Giants tonight. The Giants are the WORLD CHAMPIONS for the first time since they moved to San Francisco!
